🌃 Destination guide

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a harbour city you can cross by ferry and tram. Macau is a day on these plans, by ferry, not a second vacation. The airport express does the arrival. The rest is walking, a cable car, and one paid theme park if the group wants it.

Best time to visit

When to go, written in our own words. Highlighted months are the ones we would book first.

MonthWhat we would expect
JanCool and clear. A jacket on the peak. A good month for walking.
FebChinese New Year can fill the hotels. Beautiful, and you should book before you fly.
MarMild. One of the months we would pick for a first trip with a Macau day.
AprWarm and humid. Hikes are still pleasant if you start early.
MayHotter, with showers. The harbour is lovely; the trails want water.
JunRainy and hot. Keep a museum or a mall as the backup for a washed-out afternoon.
JulTyphoon season begins. Have an indoor day in the plan so a signal is not a ruined trip.
AugThe stickiest month. Ocean Park and the malls earn their place.
SepStorms are still possible. Clear days are excellent for the peak.
OctDrier and bright. A first-choice month.
NovThe other first-choice month. Comfortable hiking and thinner summer crowds.
DecCool evenings and holiday lights. Book the peak and the big parks ahead.

Where to stay

Tsim Sha Tsui

The hotel on these plans is here, on the Kowloon side of the harbour, so the star ferry is the commute.

Central and the peak

The escalator, the restaurants, and the tram up. Do the peak once, not every night.

Lantau and Macau

The big Buddha is a cable-car morning. Macau is a separate ferry day. Do not stack them.

Questions people ask

Is Macau its own trip?

Not from Dallas. These plans give it one day by ferry and sleep back in Hong Kong.

Do we need cash?

A card covers the trains and most meals. Keep a little cash for the smaller markets and the ferry snack.

Are the park prices estimates?

Yes. Disneyland and Ocean Park lines are planning numbers, not tickets we hold.
