🎰 Destination guide

Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a desert town that happens to have a dense strip of shows, pools, and restaurants. The better TopVacay plans leave the Strip for at least one daylight hour: Red Rock, the dam, or a neighborhood that is not a casino floor.

Best time to visit

When to go, written in our own words. Highlighted months are the ones we would book first.

MonthWhat we would expect
JanCold nights and a quiet Strip. Pools are closed. Hiking weather in the morning is excellent.
FebStill cool, and one of the cheaper months to sleep on the Strip. A jacket for the walk between hotels.
MarWarm days, brisk evenings, and pools reopening. A strong month for a first trip.
AprComfortable for walking and for Red Rock. Weekends book up around spring events.
MayHeat is on. Pool season is the point. Do the outdoor sights before noon.
JunVery hot. The Strip is a night place. Daytime belongs indoors or in the water.
JulPeak heat. If you go, treat midday as a write-off and book shows after dark.
AugStill hot, with slightly softer rates late in the month. Same plan as July.
SepThe heat breaks unevenly. Mornings outdoors start to work again.
OctThe other best window: warm days, open pools, and hiking that does not punish you.
NovCooler, clearer, and busy around races and holidays. Book the room before the show.
DecHoliday pricing and cold desert nights. Pretty, crowded, and a coat is not optional.

Where to stay

Center Strip

The walkable middle, from the Bellagio fountains through Caesars. Stay here when the plan is shows and restaurants and you do not want a taxi for dinner.

Downtown

Fremont Street and the arts blocks just off it. Lower room rates, a different crowd, and an easy night that is not another megaresort.

Summerlin and Red Rock

The west side, for people who want a trailhead more than a nightclub. A car is the whole point of sleeping out here.

Questions people ask

Do we need a car?

Not for a Strip-and-shows weekend. Rent one for a day if Red Rock, the Hoover Dam, or Valley of Fire is on the list.

How long is a useful first trip?

Three nights covers a show, one big outdoor day, and a meal you booked ahead. Longer stays in the catalog add a second desert day instead of more casinos.

Are the daily budgets on this page hotel quotes?

No. They are computed from the estimated totals on public TopVacay trips for this destination, divided by people and by days.
