🕌 Destination guide

Istanbul

Istanbul is two walks that meet at the water: the old peninsula in the morning, Galata and the Asian shore when the light drops. The airport is far. Put the transfer in the plan so the first mosque is not a race from the curb.

Best time to visit

When to go, written in our own words. Highlighted months are the ones we would book first.

MonthWhat we would expect
JanCold and quiet. The mosques are calm. Dress for wind off the water.
FebSimilar, with a chance of snow that does not last. A good museum month.
MarUnsettled. Blossom starts. Carry a layer for the ferry.
AprMild and long enough. A first-choice month.
MayWarm and green. The other easy month before summer heat.
JunHot in the old city by noon. Start at opening.
JulPeak heat and peak visitors. The cistern and the palaces beat the squares at midday.
AugStill hot. Evenings on the Galata side are the reward.
SepWarm light and easier crowds. A first-choice month.
OctCrisp and gold. Excellent walking. Some rain.
NovCool and grey. The hammam earns its place. Fewer cruise ships.
DecShort days and holiday lights on Istiklal. Book the palace morning.

Where to stay

Sultanahmet

The hotel on these plans is here, so Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque are a walk, not a commute.

Karakoy and Galata

Cross the bridge for the tower, the bakeries, and a sunset that is not another mosque courtyard.

Kadikoy

The Asian side is a public ferry, not a tour. One afternoon is enough.

Questions people ask

Can we see Cappadocia on these plans?

No. These four city plans stay in Istanbul. A Cappadocia add-on is a different trip.

Is the hammam required?

Only on the plans that list one. It is a paid hour, estimated, and easy to skip.

Which airport?

The sample flights use the main IST airport. Leave time for the ride into Sultanahmet.
