Grand Canyon & Sedona

The South Rim stays open through winter and gets cold. Sedona is about two hours north of Phoenix. These are separate trips, not one rushed day.

Best time to visit

When to go, written in our own words. Highlighted months are the ones we would book first.

Jan	The South Rim is open and cold, often icy. Sedona is milder and still not a hike-at-noon month.
Feb	Same winter pattern. Sunsets at the rim are the reward for the coat.
Mar	A walking month if a late storm does not close the rim roads.
Apr	A month we would book for both the rim and Sedona.
May	Warm days. Start rim walks early. Sedona afternoons heat up.
Jun	Hot on the rim and hotter in Sedona. This is not an inner-canyon plan.
Jul	Monsoon storms can build after lunch. Mornings are the walk.
Aug	Still hot. The creek in Sedona beats a midday trail.
Sep	A month we would book. The light is good and the heat backs off.
Oct	The other month we would book. Nights at the rim are cold again.
Nov	Quieter. The rim wants a real coat.
Dec	Holiday rooms at the rim are scarce. Sedona is the easier winter stay.
